What would go great with these local reports is a pic or two. I
suggested to Strevel once that he could be an invaluable contributor
here simply by snapping photos of new construction, etc., while running
his errands around town. Needless to say, he never followed up on it,
although some might say his 'crazy rants' were entertainment enough.

Anyway, keep these local reports coming, pics or no.

you can't even get a slam at dennys for 5.00 anymore.
now it's around 10.00 to get slammed at Dennys.

Dixie,

Many, many years ago at the Showboat the place with whispering
Pete who commented on the tv bowling shows. I was playing
blackjack and a drunk came to the table placed a 25 cent bet
and asked for a beer. The dealer said "go to the bar and buy one".

I don't know of any buffet that charges extra for beverages

At the Sunset they serve the orange juice in a 16 oz glass,
I just asked for orange juice and did not specify any size,
but I did see smaller size juices. For the coffee, they just left
a pot on the table and it was good.


At the Palms, the orange juices are small and they do not
leave a pot of coffee even though I asked. But they
constantly refilled both, more times than I expected.

I'm glad you enjoyed their breakfast buffet. Sadly, their dinner buffet
hasn't been good for a while. If you happen to like brisket, bring a
chainsaw to cut it.

doc I like your reports, but it occurs to me that they must hate folks
like yourself that take advantage of these offers and spend next to nothing.
Kind of makes me see why some places are so downright surly when I hand then
a coupon.

You may have a point there, but in most cases the receiver
of the coupon has no idea if I spending next to nothing or not
at the buffets, but I still tip the server more than average,
usually $5 for two of us.

In places where I played matchplays some dealers know
who I am, when my sweetheart and myself play a $10
matchplay and win $40, that surly look becomes one
of appreciation when I toke $5 for the the one hand.

One dealer who I played many matchplays against, smiles
at me and says coupon alert! Having played matchplays
for three years, you get recognized by many dealers,
especially when you do the right thing. I don't know
how many times I've had dealers cheat for me (not on
matchplays). They will check ther hole card and ask me
if I'm sure I don't want insurance, or if they made an error
and paid me and realize the error, they don't ask for
the money back.

The only person I've ever had a problem with is Pete, one
of the pit people at Ellis Island and he gives everyone a
hard time.

Vegas gives more than $1,000,000 of stuff away each day,
so regardless of the look you get, they know it is good
business.

I would encourage everyone to get as much as you can
get, the casino is not my friend or yours.

Marcia:

I took the cousins to breakfast brunch at the Boulder Station last Sunday
and we enjoyed it. The brisket was exceptionally tender as was the Prime
rib.

Of all the Station casinos, I think Boulder Station stands above the others.
They now have a new Broiler Brunch ($19.99) in addition to the regular
brunch which is $10.99 or $8.99 with the railpass. Green Valley and Red
Rock are of course in another league but for the price we thought the one at
Boulder was excellent.

I think for the price, MSS, Orleans, Rampart and Boulder Station lead the
pack for good Sunday brunch at a good price if you do not desire the pricier
mega resorts.

Agreed. You make a good point not to stiff or jip the food server when
using a coupon. At a buffet I have never tipped less than $2 a person
unless the service was really poor. And if the service was really poor, I
let the manager know it.

I have never seen any difference in service regardless of using a coupon.
Nobody works harder in this town than a member of Culinary Union. While I
am not really pro or anti union, I have always supported the Culinary Union.

It is nice to see the Writers Strike finally over. The food business in LA
AND Las Vegas will pick up quickly. Craft Services took a huge hit as did a
lot of restaurants. Many do not realize that writer junkets to Las Vegas
are very common from Hollywood as are produces, stage techs, etc.

What about at a $38 Bellagio or Wynn buffet? Seriously, it's getting
harder to figure out the right buffet tip these days.

We had great brisket at Santa Fe Station, of all places. I live closest to
Sunset, so we end up there most of the time. I wish their buffet was better.

I am hearing a lot of good reports about Santa Fe's new buffet. I will
have to try it soon. Actually Main Street Station had the best brisket I
ever tasted for a buffet.
