Well tonights dinner had my sweetheart and myself
at Maddy's Paddys Cafe inside the Poker Palace.
So the posting headline of taking one for AVLV'ers,
as I don't expect any vacationing AVLV'er to visit
this place. I know we were not going to run into
Tom from CT or Donna. Maybe Matt or Cameron
if someone flipped a Mickey Finn in their drinks or
they were car jacked.
But, lets start at the beggining of the story. About a
month ago took a real beating playing matchplays.
So first we stopped at The Bighorn Casino just
east of Las Vegas Blvd on E. Lake Mead Blvd.
Last time there played two $10 matchplay, lost
both plus an additional $20 for a net of minus $40.
Ditto again this time. This place is crowded and
smokey with more machines & smoke per cubic
foot.
Next a short distance away another stop at
The Silver Nugget, where we lost 7 out of 8
matchplays the last time & the first 3 out of 4
this time using Opera House $20 match plays,
(actually 4 $5 matchplay chips). We managed a
$45 profit this time, so we are up $5. I can't say
enough how they cleaned up this place and
the night signage is very good, makes you want
to stop.
Next off to Poker Palace where the last time we lost
$40 with 2 $10 matchplay. We decided to eat first,
otherwise if we lost first, it might be a miserable
dinner.
I didn't have high expectations, but it was far
better than expected. At the entrance at
Maddy's Paddys Cafe we were greeted by a well
dressed host, at least for a place like Poker Palace.
They have two dining areas in the restaurant and the
decor would be fitting for a place in Key Largo.
The furniture was a little beat up, but one step up
from Carefull Kittys. We sat in a booth which would
accommodate even the largest AVLV'er.
Entering and while being seated at our a booth
I notice several nice steak dinners being consumed
by other diners. When the waiter took our order
it was the 12 oz New York Strip steak ($12.99).
With baked potato, bla, bla, bla. The wait staff
was professional dressed, black slacks, white
shirts & black bow ties. Certainly more class
than expected for Poker Palace. The bill with
drinks came to $31 but with the American Casino
Guide 2/1 it was only $17. Also note, the restaurant
does not accept debit or charge cards, only cash.
Also the clientele of the dinning crowd was several
levels above the crowd at the Blackjack tables.
Off to the Blackjack tables where we managed
to lose $10 even using two $10 matchplay.
Then we ended up the evening playing blackjack
at the Western, winning $20. My sweatheart put
$2 in a 25 cent duces wild and came up with
four duces paying $50, so for the day we were up
$65.

Thanks for taking these walks on the semi-wild side on our behalf.
Lord help you if the ACG ever publishes any coupons for the New Town
Tavern.

That's "Ultra" New Town Tavern... I believe someone is still waiting for
some $5.00 chips from the place... but I digress.

BartenderWJT-
The best way to "thank" a bartender is to not stiff them.
The best way to stiff a bartender is simply say "thanks." >> Stay informed about: Taking One For AVLV'ers |
