Ok, I would like to check out all the main sites in Egypt. Will be
traveling from London UK. I have 7 - 9 days maximum but can take it
anytime this Year. My budget is no more than £700 per person but would
like to make it £500 if possible, and will be traveling as two. What
would be the best time of Year to do it? And where should I book the
trip? Was thinking (just thinking) it might be a good idea to fly into
an airport at the South end of the Nile and then perhaps travel by
boat down to Cairo visting sites on the way. And then flying back from
Cairo. Is this a valid option? I was also thinking of buying a return
ticket and booking a hotel (say in Cairo), and then it should be
possible to book tours to the main sites from there. Also I friend who
visited a while ago said that they had just arrived at Dahab airport
and booked the rest of their trip from there. Is this a reliable
option? Also, I would like to drop by Istanbul and Athens for one or
two days each and fly back to London from there. How much do you think
this might add on to the cost of the trip?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,

Kind regards,

Wowee!
I think you underestimate the distance between some of the sights - up to
600 miles or so.
Personally, I'd fly to Aswan or Cairo, doing the stuff below in whichever
direction.
A half-day flight trip from Aswan to Abu Simbel. Or 1 day by car.
At least a day for Aswan sights.
'Do' the temples between Aswan & Luxor. At leisure on a Nile cruise for 3 or
4 days, or in one hurried day by road.
Minimum of two days for Luxor/Karnak/Valleys - preferably more.
A half-day by road or 1 day by boat to Dendera.
Fly or train to Cairo.
Minimum of two days for Giza/Cairo including Stepped Pyramids etc.
If time is your problem, I'd miss Alex.

It's possible to book packaged tours of 7/10 days for £700 or so from
London.

Including Istanbul & Athens is pushing it.

Hey, big thanks for your helpful message. Sorry forgot to mention that
I don't drive.

Anyways, it was very informative.

When I mentioned Athens and Instanbul I didn't mean on the same budget
and time. I would have allowed myself more time for them. Sorry it
wasn't clear.

Just one last question, who should I book this trip with in the UK?

Many many thanks and kind regards,

Many many thanks and kind regards,

Just Google. They're very common. From maybe £500 to luxurious four figures.
Drive tours can be booked on spot - we've never driven in Egypt either!
Sorry - can't recommend any company in particular, we've always gone DIY -
but I'd recommend a package for the first trip.
But, within your budget, try and get the most days possible - the 5-day etc.
versions are impossibly rushed.
Most first-timers go for the Nile cruise Aswan/Luxor. Unless you just like
the idea of floating around for several days, I wouldn't. It wastes so much
time. Go for my original itinerary using a car tour for a 1-day or 2-day
excursion Aswan/Luxor.
Aswan sights (apart from Abu Simbel) are within a compact area, as is
Luxor/Karnak/Valleys and Cairo.
I like the whole Suez thing, although many aren't bothered. That's an easy
1-day car tour from Cairo.
Beware of Cairo Museum - it's massive!! Depending on your interests, make
your guide cherrypick - e.g. Tut's stuff and mummies. Otherwise you'll walk
miles through interminable corridors!

don't waste your time boating on the nile. it will take 3 or 4 days,
and it is difficult to tell the difference between boating on nile and
boating on thames.

You have to be joking!
I've already warned the original poster off due to the time involved.
But it's one hell of an almost surreal experience - in the boat and
outside - if one does have the time.

I spent a week on a Nile cruise. I wouldn't call it surreal. It was very
pleasant, and relaxing...

I'll be "boating on the Nile" in a couple of months. I
expect to see and visit a little more of Ancient Egypt than
Cleopatra's Needle:-)
