I plan to take touring holiday in NZ, driving myself and staying in B&B,s
does anyone know if I would be better off converting money from AU to NZ in
Australia or leave it till I get to NZ? also would someone be kind enough to
just post their "must see places" in NZ, no need to put details I will look
it up on the net. Oh, also does anyone have a good car hire company they had
a good experience with?
Thanks

Hi

I too have been looking at car hire in NZ for a forthcoming trip.

What I have found is that that most large car hire firms will allow a
"single" car hire agreement covering both North and South Island
without the massive surcharge you mention.

But, the agreement is dependant on you using the Inter-island ferry.
How it apparently works is that you drop off the first car at the
ferry terminal, take the ferry across the Cook Strait and they have a
similar car waiting for you at the ferry terminal on the other side,
under the same rental agreement.

I stress that I have not actually done this yet, so do not know how
well it works in practice - hopefully without any problems. It could
be worth checking out if you were thinking of taking the ferry.

Regards

We were going to take a car on a recent 3 week visit, but opted for a
Flexi-pass on the the buses instead. We wanted to spend our time watching
the views, not the road.
Every major town had small minibuses running day trips to scenic locations
and other attrractions for very reasonable prices.
We didn't miss the car at all.
