Did anyone catch this in the Sun yesterday?

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/jan/27/jeff-simpson-latest-reason...vada-sh

Apparently, the owners of the LV Tropicana are requesting that employees
wait two days before cashing their paychecks. I bet I know what choice
words Trop employees have for Columbia Sussex; starts with "F".

For the love of all things holy I wish the state gaming comission would
yank their licemse away due to gross incompetency.

wow --- I think the word "scathing" could easily be used to describe the
story. I -loved- his opening effort....

"Already faced with meat-ax cuts to staff and operational budgets that
have destroyed morale and come close to turning the property into a
dump, workers are now facing even more indignities at the hands of the
Kentucky-based half-wits who run the Trop."

thanks Cam --- missed it all together.

And these clowns thought they were going to get $billions in financing
to build a mega-resort on that property. Idiots.

This is a sad story. It seems like they're not even trying to run a
quality establishment. I'm sure MGM or Harrah's would gladly take
that property off their hands for the right price.

Absolutely. I'm guessing that running the Trop into the ground is a
purely strategic move.

Maybe so, but this method seems to be pretty stupid. If they're
looking for investors to revamp the property, I don't know if I'd want
to go into business with some who's pissed off customers, the Culinary
Union, one state gaming control board (NJ), and possibly another
(Nevada).

I've said it before & I'll say it again, anyone who lets a property
slip into such chaos, especially one that not too many years ago was
one of the bigger players on the South Strip, should have their
license taken away due to gross incompetence.

They're using Guiliani's Florida strategy and lulling MGM and Harrah's
into a false sense of security.

I don't get it? What kind of strategy is that? Wouldn't it be worth
more as a viable concern? What would be the motive to let it
fall this far into disarray?

For sure. Look what the same strategy did for the Frontier.

Yeah, JP, not making payments into the Culinary Union pension fund
doesn't directly impact the gaming operations either, but Binion's got
shut down a few years ago because of it. So you don't think gaming
control will shut down the Trop if they don't have the cash flow to
meet payroll or pay gamblers?

I am in full agreement with most on this NG that you have no idea what
you're talking about.

For those who have forgotten this sad chapter in Vegas history:

I think if you checked the facts, you would find that the gaming commission
has no authority to inject itself into the day to day financial dealings of
the trop. Their main concerning is gaming and as long as the trop obeys all
of the gaming regulations, then the trop won't lose their gaming license
because how they run the hotel or how they pay their employees. They lost
their AC gaming license due to dishonesty and that impacts directly on their
gaming operations.
The gaming commission is not concerned with cash flow problems or any other
problems the trop may have, as long as they don't impact directly on their
gaming operations.
