Georgette -
We were at the downtown Hyatt in Vancouver two weeks ago on a one-night,
pre-cruise stay purchased through Priceline for $50/room. It's a nice hotel
in a good location, within blocks of shopping, sightseeing and
transportation options. I highly recommend checking out the Bidding for
Travel web site (www.biddingfortravel.com) for information on bidding
strategies for Priceline, along with recent successful bid information and
hotel reviews from Priceline travelers. Last August, we got the Renaissance
Harbourview in Vancouver for our pre-cruise night and it was very nice also.
We had 4 rooms, and 2 of them had view of the incoming ships. We paid
$45/night for that property last year.

We also used Priceline for our post-cruise stays at hotels near the airport:
the Fairmont Vancouver Airport last year for $55 and the Marriott Suites
this year for $45. (Alas, the Fairmont does not seem to be offering any
bargains this year.)

If you're flexible about the hotel choice, then you can save a lot of money
by using Priceline. (I should mention that all of the prices listed above
are U.S. dollars.)
Happy cruising,
Susan

Dawn:

For view + good service, I highly recommend The Fairmont Waterfront Hotel
(www.fairmont.com). It's a lovely, well-managed property across the street
from Canada Place--perfect for cruisers who embark/disembark from this terminal
and for watching the cruise ships and other seagoing vessels, seaplanes and
helicopters that keep Burrard Inlet hopping. Better yet, good deals on this
hotel (and many others) can be found at http://www.tourismvancouver.com --
last summer, we booked a promotion advertised under the family lodging packages
section that featured a harbourview suite, plus aquarium admission (2 adults,
2 children = $27.50 USD value) and trolley tickets ($50 USD value), for the
rough equivalent of $160 USD per night including all taxes. It is tough to
find a true harbourview room for that price, much less a suite at a first
class property. When we arrived in our room, the aquarium and trolley tickets
were arranged on a tray bearing an assortment of tea cart cookies, truffles
and baked goods plus two stuffed animal beluga whales (sold at the aquarium
for $6.99 CAD each)! The kids enjoyed the heated outdoor pool overlooking
the harbour, and the hotel offered complimentary bikes. This was a great
deal for families and couples alike--I'd search for something comparable
among this summer's offerings.

Aah! This brought memories of out trip just a few years agol We went to bed
on the night before our cruise, and when we awoke, there was our ship right
outside the window! What a lovely sight. We loved the Waterfront hotel, and
the concierge pointed us in the right direction for a sunset sightseeing
tour (bus).

Ermalee <---would stay there again.

I just booked the Delta Pinnacle through Priceline for $48 for my overnight
stay before we board the Sun Princess headed for Alaska. The price on their
reservation page is $249cdn, which is about $183 usd. I'll be sure to leave
a review of the hotel upon our return.

Delta hotels are, inmho, the best value hotel in major Canadian cities.
