Hi all,
I am building a comprehensive website about Bangalore.
Since this will take a lot of time, I am releasing it in phases ;o)
This is the alpha / beta / gamma or whatever release in the series.
Please click http://kashyapa.topcities.com/bangalore/phototours/lalbagh/
or http://www.geocities.com/ranganathkashyap/bangalore/phototours/lalbagh/
Your feedback is appreciated ;o)
Also, please note that all the content in the site are original work
and cannot be reproduced elsewhere (Forgive me if I sound harsh ;o(,
but it takes me some effort to put these things up)
Regards,
Kashyapa

My first comment would be that, if you're putting a lot of work into
it, why not get your own domain name. It'll give you a much more
professional look and feel, not to mention a more memorable and
shorter web address.

Personally, I'm not a great fan of frames-based sites and would tend
to avoid them. But I accept that is partly personal preference.

You have a lot of info there, but I wonder if it could be presented a
little more attractive. I wonder if something other than that tiled
(and yes, you can see the joins between tiles) green background would
look a bit more classy...

That's not harsh at all... nobody has the right just to go and pinch
your hard work! Smile

This idea I thought of pursuing after I put in few more pages as
pilots to get some sponsers. As such, I may not be able to invest on a
domain name and Webspace rightaway ;o(
One more point to note would be the time factor, which I do not have
in abundance. After working 5 days in a software company, getting
weekend off nowadays has become a 50:50 chance ;o(

I've put this up in frames just to bring down the download time and
navigation effort. One always recognizes that in India, majority of
the net users use dial-up connexion.

Oops! That 'green background' is actually a piece of turf of a lawn in
Lalbagh! I'll definitely try to make it seemless ;o)

Hey, thanks pal! you share my thought!!!

Kashyapa

PS: I've a specific design issue in HTML (!)
When you see this page
(http://www.geocities.com/ranganathkashyap/bangalore/phototours/lalbagh/),
you can observe that for every link clicked on the left frame, I'm
displaying a different image in the right frame.
My question is:
"Without doing any of the 3 things viz:
1) creating separate container HTML pages for each image,
2) embedding text in the image or
3) splitting the right frame into two horizontal frames
can I display an addtional text description along with the image on
the right frame on the same click of the link?". Suggestions can be
posted on groups or directly sent to my mail ID.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

you put an ID in your <img> field eg. <IMG ID='imgswapper' SRC="WHATEVER">

then you put an onclick event on the left frame menu.

onclick="document.frames('LEFTFRAMENAME').document.getElemetByID('imgswapper
').scr='NEWIMAGESOURCE'"

the same way you can make an <DIV ID='text_desc'> underneat the IMAGE.

FROM the left menu (you have to call a function hence itīs now two actions
in the onclick event)
onclick="document.frames('LEFTFRAMENAME').document.getElemetByID('img_desc')
..innerText='bla.bla.bla.'"

Does this make sense ?

Thanks for the reply. However, i discovered a very simple workaround
for this yesterday. And it is working fine ;o)
I did something like this...
In the index (frameset) page, the name of the right frame is
'mainFrame'
Whenever a link is clicked on the left frame, i call a JavaScript like
Link Text
which invokes...
<script language="JavaScript">
function loadImage(source, desc) {
parent.mainFrame.document.clear();
parent.mainFrame.document.write("<BODY><IMG
SRC="+source+"><BR>"+desc+"</BODY>");
}
</script>
