Post subject: arriving in Greece by car with dog
Archived from groups: alt>travel>greece (more info?)

I thought we were all set for our trip from the UK. Driving to
Ancona, getting the Superfast Ferry and arriving in Patras. Now
I found the following info.

Whilst I no problem worming my dog, she is wormed regularly
anyway, this seems to require a bit more organisation. Is this
still valid?

Any advice please.

THanks
Jane

The owners of dogs must also carry documentation certifying that
the animal has been wormed against echinococcus. Certificates
must be issued by a veterinary authority and authenticated and
notarized by a corresponding medical authority and by a Greek
Consulate.

Hi Jane,

To travel with your dog within the European Union nothing is required but
the microchip, the EU pet passport and a valid vaccination against rabies.
This applies since 2004 to all countries you will travel from the UK to get
to Greece, Greece herself included. However, to travel back with your dog
and to enter the UK again you resp. your animal has to fulfil the
requirements of the so called UK pet travel scheme that might still include
a worming treatment; IMHO it includes a blood test as for rabies antibodies.
The exact rules and if they apply also for re-entering with a dog that
before has been always in the UK, you have to check with your local vet
within the UK. There also can be found websites when checking "pet travel
scheme" at Google.

Hope that helps.

Regina

Thanks Regina, I think I am searching the internet far too much
and worrying myself unnecessarily about this trip. I am sure it
will all go fine, and thanks for answering.

Yes into the UK I know we have to worm and flea treat her and
this is already arranged in France.

Thanks again
Jane
