What beverages are included with dinner in the dining room? Is there
a charge for milk or a coke?

When people purchase soda cards, is that just for the lounges; or are
sodas available for free in the Windjammer Cafe? If not, what
beverages are available in the Windjammer Cafe?

Thanks.

There is a charge for coke in the dining room. It is not included with
dinner. Other beverages like coffee and tea are included. There would
be no charge for milk.

In the Windjammer coffee, tea, lemonade are free.

The soda card can be used in the Windjammer, dinning room, lounges. It
is fountain soda, not the cans. For cans there is always a charge.

Charles,

That is too bad and another "downgrade" of RCCL. I took a couple of
RCCL cruises around 10 years ago and soft drinks were available at no
charge in the dining room. What's funny is milk is included in the
cruise fare yet milk must cost more than Diet Coke(tm).

I know it all gets back to the fact that cruise prices are quite
reasonable, but there are fewer and fewer "extras".

Its quantity not expense. When I was still drinking diet coke, I
would fill that sucker up 4-5 times a day. No way anyone would drink any
where that much milk, especially since it is isn't readily available at
the bars. So, Coke cost them more overall than milk.

Thanks Charles -

Just for clarification, if we are in the Windjammer, the dining room,
or the lounge, we can use the soda card. Where are the cans available
that we would be charged?

Personally, I prefer fountain sodas rather than canned soda. So, this
is just a curiosity question.

The last time we sailed on RCCL, sodas and milk were included in the
dining room. The only time there was a charge for a soda was in the
lounge.

Thanks to everyone for your response.

Hi Dean -

The last time we sailed with RCCL was in 1995 and, yes, these
beverages were included with dinner.

However, don't all cruiselines charge for soda cards; or is it only
RCCL?

I know that milk is included because one of the guys at our table had
two glasses of milk at every dinner.

I don't know about cokes in any location, but I suspect that you have
to put them on your card everywhere. You had to pay extra for the
specialty coffees at dinner just like if you had wine or some other
alcoholic drink.

What's available at the Windjammer depends on the meal.

Breakfast I think there was water, coffee (regular and decafe, but not
specialty coffees AFAIK), tea (I think iced tea usually although
probably hot tea is also available), milk of various fat content (if
they don't run out) orange juice, and some other kind of tropical
juice blend in the morning. Possibly also herbal tea and hot
chocolate - at least they have that in the dining room. You could get
cranberry juice, but they had to go into the back to get it. At
breakfast they have a guy with a cart that has coffee and OJ
circulating through.

Iuki, I am certain that all the mainstream cruiselines charge for the
soda cards. Those cards would certainly be valid anywhere anytime on
the ship. This discussion diverged into the fact that sodas were free
in the dining room at dinner time. Alas sodas are apparently no
longer free in the dining room on RCCL

You order canned soda from any of the bar waiters who are circulating
that take drink orders. The same ones who you would give your soda card
to for a fountain soda.

They added the charge for soda several years ago. I never order soda, I
don't drink it, but they also added charges for Espresso and
Cappuccino, so I have also been hit by the added charges too.

Thanks for all the info.

As long as I can have milk I'm happy.

My husband and I don't drink a lot of soda, so we were undecided
whether or not we wanted to buy a soda card.

We rarely drink soda and so have never bought a soda card on board a
ship. The only drink that has ever been on our bill on any cruise is
a virgin pina colada that I got on embarkation day because I'd
recently discovered that I liked them. I'd forgotten that I'd have to
pay extra for that.

I'm going on a cruise with my grandson, and if he's anything like his
first cousin, a soda card is probably going to be worthwhile.

I don't think the soda was free on Sovereign in 1999. It hasn't been
since 2001 on Explorer either.

They serve Ice Tea, Lemonade, and fruit punch in the dinning rooms
now. Good, because I wasn't one for the lemonade, and the Ice Tea
just doesn't meet my standards.

I have thought about the drink cards, but just can't get myself to do
it. I will pop a can from the fridge now and then. I'm seriously
considering packing my ice tea maker the next cruise. I'm content
that the room water is sufficiently potable for my use. That is
something I'd have avoided prior to the Voyager class.

I'll ask some of my site's members what they noticed. There are three
different couples "on the fleet" at the moment. Might even blog a
note or two about it.

On our 7 day Carnival cruise, I was going to buy soda cards for the
two kids and myself. I decided to try going the week without soda, so
I didn'y buy any cards. My son got one soda at dinner 4 or 5 of the
nights. I was surprised that I did not miss the soda.

That was much cheaper that buying the cards.

Let's see, I just paid $3.79 for a gallon of milk. How much for a two
litre bottle of Coke?

The cards aren't valid in the dining room. The cards are for fountain
drinks (it's not a card, it's a mug).

And most of the mainstream lines have been charging forsoft drinks for
at least 7 or 8 years. The only exception I can think of at the
moment is Disney. And they still charge in the dining room.
