looking for cheap flights from uk to usa

It kinda depends on a few things.

Where do you want to fly from?
Where do you want to fly *to*?
What dates do you want? (And are these flexible...)

Your best option is to get the answers to these questions and then look at=
=20
the major flight booking sites to see what's available, and then possibly=
=20
rethink your options. Bear in mind that tax for the US is between=20
65-110GBP depending on airline and destination - tax on Air France is=20
currently the highest while Continental and Icelandair have amongst the=20
lowest tax.

Many people here would recommend *not* going through e-bookers as there=20
appear to be a lot of problems with them. So look at the airline websites=
=20
(some are reserving special fares for themselves only) and also check=20
websites like expedia.co.uk, opodo.co.uk, thinkflights.com, etc.

If you're looking to go to Orlando, also check out charter companies to=20
fly into Sanford. I wouldn't recommend booking with Airtours/MyTravel at=
=20
the moment though.

Thanks Mike and Hilary. Im actually looking to go to Iowa. Anytime of the
year, whenever is cheapest. Im going out to surprise a friend of mine. I
want to fly from either London or Birmingham. I will check those sites out

Where abouts in Iowa? It's quite a big state, with no direct flights
from the UK. The only way you will get there for £250 is to fly to
Chicago, and drive. You are looking at a 300+ mile trip.

AA pulled BHX > ORD a while ago. PIA do this route twice weekly, but
I've never seen seats available on the major booking sites.

The cheapest times of year tend to be January-mid March and November.
Check out flights to your friend's city as well as to the nearest major
airport - sometimes there can be a huge difference. (It may even be
cheaper to fly to a major airport in a neighbouring state, and hire a car
for the last part.)
