Hey all!

I have about 20 days in mid-august for vacation time. I am currently a
college student. I was thinking about driving up into Ontario or Quebec
from Maryland. (Should I travel into Quebec? I am a english/german
speaker. I have heard bad stories) I enjoy backpacking and sightseeing and
other active activities. I have located hostels and motels to stay along
the way up there.

Would any of you know any really good internet resources that may be able to
help me prepare for this trip. I have never traveled by myself into Canada
before. Any great places I should see and go backpacking in? Fishing?
Great eats I should stop at? Any recommendations, tips or links that would
help me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
John

Well John

Live a little Quebec is a good place to start your visit.

Remember not to speed they are a little sticky on this.

Go to Montreal spend a day or two then Ottawa for a week ride the rapids
just north of the city this is good to the end of the first 10 days.

You can camp and fish north of Montreal all around Ottawa.
Then swing over to Smith Falls and down to Kingston for more fishing or
take the slow road (highway 7) to Toronto.
Visit Toronto swing around to Niagara Falls and return home from there.

enjoy your visit

If you do return through Niagara Falls there are plenty of very reasonable
restaurants there. A great pancake house on Lundy's Lane (cannot remember
the name but close to Stanley street...white brick if I recall correctly).
The food is cheap, the helpings are plentiful, and the quality and service
is great. Also grab a soft pretzel or waffle cone on Clifton Hill in the
Falls. And for a great way to spend some time (and it costs nothing to do
so) see the locks at St. Catherines. Large ships of all types traverse the
locks and it is a fascinating way to spend a few hours just watching the
ships being raised and lowered. Great place for a picnic lunch too. Be sure
to travel through the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Absolutely beautiful town
that is faithful to the early 1800s.

That should keep you busy!

Thanks,
I have been to Niagara Falls a few times before, but never crossed the
border. I was actually thinking of leaving the US from there. I have
family in northern PA along route 81 and I thought I might drop in and say
hi. I suppose I need to look how to plan the route a little better. Now
that I have found out (from multiple NG's, google, and friends) some places
to check out I should be able to create a good itinerary. Thanks again!
