Well, as you can see by the responses, there's lots to do in London. But in
May, I'd try to get outside the city to see something of the beautiful,
blooming countryside. London Walks (www.walks.com) has Explorer tours,
daytrips outside the city to places like the Cotswolds and rural Kent. We
took a memorable one to Richmond and Hampton Court Palace. (Loved the boat
trip on the Thames.)

After many years of visiting and even living in London, last trip I
visited the Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Roomsand really enjoyed
it.

It is very close to some of the other things you may be seeing, so give
their web site a look-

Which Stratford? I lived in Stratford on Avon for many years -- it was
safer after dark than most towns in the day.

The OP presumably means Stratford in East London (the East London in
London, not the one in South Africa).

Not one of my favourite places but not exactly Here Be Dragons either.

The clue is in the words 'multicultural London'.

If I'd meant the well known tourist trap 'Stratford on Avon I'd have said
so, but I'm about as likely to recommend a visit there as recommend you
have a leg removed so you can see what it's like...

The place is ghastly, the theatre is always full of A level students
reciting along with the play and the town invariably full of Americans and
Japanese busy being impressed by Victorian reproductions of Elizabethan
structures and being ripped off by a set of shopkeepers and catering outlets
to an extent that is actually bordering on the repulsive.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the New borough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach

Hm. I wouldn't call it ghastly. Spending an evening in Stratford is a
good idea, as most visitors are day trippers. I found it particularly
lovely on a Sunday morning, when for a few hours I felt as though I had
the place entirely to myself. We had some good meals in pubs and didn't
find it over-expensive.
