I'm curious where you get the "More than half the time" factor. The
tunnel is only faster with both (1) there is traffic on surface
streets, and (2) there isn't traffic on the highway.

The cabbie is essentially stealing $5-10 from you. Would you consier
it a big deal if a waitress padded your bill by $5? Would you consider
it a big deal if a deal short-paid you $10? Would you consider it a
big deal if some guy snatched $5 out of your hand and ran off with
it? >> Stay informed about: Taxi long-hauling scam from McCarran airport |

As a former cab driver... this is precisely what you should do in the
situation.

BartenderWJT-
The best way to "thank" a bartender is to not stiff them.
The best way to stiff a bartender is simply say "thanks." >> Stay informed about: Taxi long-hauling scam from McCarran airport |

Wear a sign when you are at the table, so that people passing by will know
that it is OK to swipe a red or two from your stack, so that they can buy milk

I very rarely bother responding to challenge/response systems,

I agree that the price is right especially if travelling alone, but it
takes too long for me. >> Stay informed about: Taxi long-hauling scam from McCarran airport |

Half the time because depending on where your heading to. It is faster to
take the 215, pretty much the entire north strip and downtown. Also I will
take the 215 to any resort that is accessable from Frank Sinatra (M.
Bay,Luxor,Excal, ect.).
BTW-there is ALWAYS traffic on the surface streets that lead to the strip
IMO.

Granted I just don't think this is something that is willingly being done on
a large scale. I would think these guys are generally in a rush to get back
to another fare not waste time. >> Stay informed about: Taxi long-hauling scam from McCarran airport |

Very tempting, but I hit on another solution: Next time I'll stay at the
Silverton, and the tunnel will be my friend.
With my luck, the cab driver WON'T take the tunnel then...
