Post subject: helping the people? visit them! (BURMA/MYANMAR)
Archived from groups: rec>travel>asia (more info?)

I felt that we the travel agencies who sell packages, tickets, hotel
rooms and other tourism related services in Myanmar to my thought are
obliged to steer-clear the real situation regarding the past events of
the last week of September 2007- to have more transparency between us
being informatics and gaining the confidence, to benefit the travelers
knowing of what to do and where they are at, to be interactive at
humanitarian point of view.

Tourism is no doubt giving benefits to employees at five star hotels
to street side vendors, up and the grassroots in many aspects;
bringing ways of non-isolation, widening the international chances.

Due to what has happened from September 26th to 28th in Myanmar, the
tourist groups have been dropped apparently down into almost zero
level in this October. This brings us all about the same old story
back alive that "if the travelers should go to Myanmar (Burma)"

I'm afraid that this factor finally deviates from the fact "helping
the people by visiting them."

Expressed the Lonely Planet "Tourism remains one of the few industries
to which ordinary locals have access - in terms of income and
communication; the vast majority of locals want you there; human-
rights abuses are less likely to occur in areas where the
international community is present; the government stopped forcing
foreigners to change US$200.00 into government notes upon arrival; the
majority (possibly over 80%) of a careful independent traveler's
expenses goes into the private sector; and keeping the people isolated
from international witnesses to internal oppression may only cement
the government's ability to rule."

Majority of local tour companies in Myanmar practice directly the
private services conducting by the local communities from place to
place. In this way, how the operation is networked and we're proud
that we do this type of business network.

Thus, I would call you all colleagues for consideration as it's a kind
of humanitarian aid worthy to visit people and the Country. Upon your
agreement, please to pass these words of mouth at least would be very
beneficial. Kindly relax to get in touch with me and I'd be glad for
any further clarifications. Give me your Comments here!
