It's all perspective.....and attitude.

Be sure to book the Blue Mountain tours bike ride in the Blue mountains, an
unforgettable experience! Hopefully they are still in operation. I did
that ride in 1997!

I say go with an open heart and OPEN EYES. Common sense will steer you
clear of danger in most cases, as with any large metro area here in the
states!!

Have fun<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I would not worry a bit about your safety. No more precautions than any
other place and safer than most large cities here in the US. You might give
more details about your plans as to where you will be staying and the
interests of your group. I am sure no one will be walking the streets or
beach alone after dark wearing large gold chains of expensive attire so just
relax and you will have a great time.

Where in Jamaica are you going? If you're going to be in downtown
Kingston, then you have some concerns. If you're going to be just about
anywhere else in Jamaica, then there is little to be worried about.
Remember that you're in a poor country, and the people are desperate to
make a good living. Some of them exist on a few dollars a day.
Therefore the sales people will be rather aggressive, but certainly not
dangerous. A friend of mine, a used car salesman, went with us a few
years ago, and made the observation that they were doing the same thing
he was, only they were much better at it!

In Negril, Montego Bay, Falmouth, Runaway Bay, Ocho Rios, Port Antonio,
and Treasure Beach, you should have your normal street smarts, and not
put yourself into a situation that is menacing. The people there are
good people, and virtually all of them are honest and warm and
respectful. There are the few "wolf in sheeps clothing" that will try
to take advantage of you. A simple NO is usually sufficient.

Remember to respect the residents of Jamaica. They live there and
struggle against many negative factors to make a living and raise their
children and educate them.

You're going to have a great time in Jamaica. I hope you aren't staying
in an all-inclusive. Even if you are, get out of the "compound" and
visit the local places for better food and drink and vibes. Attend a
local church service. You will be welcomed and treated like family. It
may be one of the best experiences you have for many years.

Treasure Beach looks amazing..avoid the tourist traps and head to the
real Jamaica..the smaller falls, the coffee plantations and
hiking..what a lovely island.
