I heard on the radio that Australian men spend a huge
amount of time playing with their barbies. What the hell is up with
that?
Why would men play with dolls? Are they unsatisfied with their women?

In Australia ,or "Oz", "barbie" is slang for "barbecue", or
B.B.Q.

"Barbie (Barbecue): Like a cook out. Many people get
together for a 'Barbie' in the warmer months. They are usually
BYO (Bring your own) meat and drinks."

http://www.travel-library.com/pacific/australia/stybr-language.html

Perhaps they aren't all that common in your area. Very common
here. Are you posting from the U.K.?

Ten pin bowling alleys are very common in the colder regions
of the US, but haven't been all that successful here in "0z".

In much of the USA, it is too cold for outdoor sports in the
dead of winter. It doesn't get that cold in most places here.
I haven't seen snow since migrated here, & I never care if see
it again.

Some people here celebrate Christmas in July, the coldest month
here, and more suitable for heavy traditional English or American
fare.Smile December 25 here is close to mid summer.

Nothing with Australian women, I assure you! Smile

Check your legs kangaroo, I believe that one of them is a bit longer
than the other.

Shock?!Gasp! Horror! Do you mean to suggest that someone posting
as
OutragedCitizens DeleteThis @gmail.com

might not be genuine? :-s

Actually, there is always a possibility that he or she might be
genuine. I'm sure that we have both seen sillier comments on
Usenet.

Anyway, seems a quiet day on the group, so thought would
offer a reply. After all, I'm usually very courteous to most
people, especially new posters on the group.

It's only when they are discourteous to me that I can force
myself to be discourteous.

Not to mention any names, but when a certain US resident
implies that I am lying about my years on Usenet, I don't
have to force myself very much! Smile

On other subjects:
Dow Jones average down, but readers probably know this.
As to Australian market, at the moment, 2:09 PM Thursday here,
the Australian exchange down around 175 points. For
current chart, see

http://www.asx.com.au/

Any bets that it will drop more before closing? Or that the
Dow will drop more overnight here? Will be interesting to
what the Dow does when it opens Thursday, and what the
ASX does tomorrow.

In my youth, I remember hearing "Bad Moon Rising" by Creedence
Clearwater Revival.
"I see a bad moon arisin'
I see troubles on the way
I see earthquakes and lightning
I see bad times today."

By Saturday morning here, perhaps the ABC will be
playing it.

IMHO, we have yet to see the ripple effect from the
sub-prime mortgage problem. Even firms in the USA are
realising that "Ninja" loans weren't really a good idea.

As readers probably know, "Ninja" is short for loans to people
with no income, no job, no assets. A week or so ago here heard
of a case in the US where someone "bought" a house and was
unable to meet the first mortgage payment.

Crude oil looks like reaching US$100 a barrel quite soon. No way
of knowing whether this month or not, but think it will before
the end of the year.

Things are so slow on the immigration and travel groups at the
moment that people might as will fill the void with casual
posts, don't you think?

Really, Dick, it is difficult enough to diagnose whether or not
a given medical patient is easily diagnosed even if examined
by a team of physicians.

It is difficult enough to even accurately define the word
"troll", let alone even if you personally know them.

Can you really establish that the writer of the post was a
"troll"? I couldn't. Possibly " yes", but possibly "no" too,
even if we could all agree on the definition of "troll".

Now of course, if you have some sort of psychic or spiritual
gift enabling you to make a remote diagnosis over the net
based on what a contributor might write, have you tried
your remote diagnostic talent in the areas of psychology,
psychiatry, and general medicine?

If you have tried and succeeded in this, perhaps we have
a potential Edgar Cayce on the group.

If you claim such talents, I might be willing to come out of
retirement and become your manager for a percentage
of your fee. Smile

Please provide convincing evidence of your psychic talent.

Of course, I would have some competition. There is a lot of spam
and a lot of criminal scams on the net. Am sure that police,
I.S.P.s, fraud squads, and so on would pay a lot for your
talents. Not to mention the medical profession.

Actual "trolls" are not a major hazard on the net, and even
provide some amusement. The real hazards are the
"hackers" and "crackers", "phishing", "worms", "viruses", "key
logging programs", scams, and so on.

Even a lot of advertising is fraudulent or misleading, and even
this is just as much of a problem.

Many people object to the amount of "pornography" available on
the net, and this is difficult enough to even "define", let alone
"control".

Anyway, if you do have the luck to have psychic abilities, you
should really capitalize on them. Smile

If you can sell your hypothetical clairvoyant talents, am sure
you will be able use them to discern the best offers. Smile

Cheers,
Kangaroo16

Under certain conditions, yes. But it now requires a permit,
and culling of the rarer macropods is illegal.

Most native Australian fauna are protected, including snakes and
sharks.

It wasn't all that long ago that a driver paid a hefty fine for
deliberately running over a flock of parrots on a highway.

Humans are definitely a protected species in Australia. It
doesn't even execute mass murderers any more. Although
most may spend the rest of their lives in the slammer.

I have repeatedly told people on this group that Australia is
a safe destination for tourists & migrants.

Do you really want to discourage either tourists or immigrants?

Regards.
