| I have posted five messages here in the past few weeks and only had one
addressed, is there another NG on travel that I should be using because this
one doesn't seem to be doing me any good.
Respectfully,
Tim

It appears to me that many posts that come up in this NG are the result
of cross-posting, particularly by Canadians who hang out in a Canadian
Travel NG. Cross-posting is supposed to be a no - no, but it doesn't
seem to be respected.
I could be wrong, but very often I have seen references to things that
have never appeared in posts in this NG.

Cross posting is a feature not a bug.
It was on the first Usenet systems in 1981.

Article posts are not private email.

Reading and posting followups are options.
This is not a personalized information service.
No one is required to address any one's specific posts.
Try other groups depending upon topic. Unmoderated ones or moderated ones.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: What's with this NG? |

This newsgroup is almost useless. I suggest you try
rec.travel.europe
rec.travel.usa-canada
rec.travel.latin-america
rec.travel.africa
etc
as you see fit. There are other specialized rec.travel.* groups
as well. But do try to make your questions reasonably specific,
none of this "What should I see in Europe?" stuff.

I did a search for the different regions of the world Travel NG such as
rec.travel.europe
rec.travel.usa-canada
rec.travel.latin-america
rec.travel.africa
but couldn't find one dealing with Oceania, Australia, NZ, etc.
I realize that this is not a service where people are obligated to respond,
I am just saying that if you go down the headers there aren't a whole lot of
answered posts.

The simple fact is not many people use this group. It's too
general.

My signature is not a complaint. It is a statement! I no longer receive
spam from spamming lurkers in NG's, and I'm certainly not complaining
about that!

If they are set up similarly, how do you reply?

The specific travel ngs are far more active - rec.travel.europe/asia/africa
etc.

With regard to my signature you wrote : <snip>If they are set up

Should someone express, in a posted message, a desire to send me an
email, I go to my Hotmail account and temporarily enter their email
address in my address book. I would then send them an email informing
them of the fact that they now are able to send me email. Once our
conversation has been completed, I delete them from the book.
This Hotmail feature is called "Exclusive" and only those I have listed
in my book can email me.

This is the second time recently that oceania has come up as a
newsgroup problem. It could be useful to consider starting an
oceania group, but (as you say) the problem is not enough posts,
not a problem of existing stuff being conflated with too many
oceania posts. It seems travellers to those parts just don't post
much, especially compared to those in the caribbean group. On the
other hand, it might be possible that founding an oceania travel
group will spawn and culture a faithful core of knowledgable posters,
which would certainly be useful.
To found a group, a proposal needs to be drawn up, posts made in
the relevant existing group, and a vote passed with a certain
number of responses. That's where the level of interest will be
measured.

Actually, I originally was looking for Oceania, and there is no NG which
covers this. I have been using rec.travel.australia+nz.
