My husband is a diabetic and has had no problems on any of our cruises.
Since he has been dx we have been on Carnival, Celebrity, Princess and
HAL without a problem.
As soon as we board the ship, he goes to see the MaitreD and he arranges
that at dinner time he sees the menu for the next day. That way if he
needs something prepared a little differently, it can be arranged.
Most of the time he is able to find things on the menu that he can eat
and also enjoy. Same thing is true of the buffets, he just has to be
careful what he picks. On all cruises he has been able to get some kind
of bread that he can eat, rye, wheat, low-carb etc. The waiters and
MaitreDs have always been very helpful.
Actually there was one of the cruises that he had a problem getting the
menu ahead of time etc. That cruise we were with friends and the dining
room service for "our table" was so horrible that we complained and none
of us gave an additional tip as we would of for good service. This is
not the norm for the cruise line we were on. Even with the problem on
this one cruise, he was still able to pick and choose foods that he
could eat.
