I read in news about lot of countries due to this or that reason. But i
read about Greece only in history books.
It seems that there is peace out there in Greece. No terrorism, no
economical, political, social problems.
I have seen historical places of Greece on tv and they are just amazing. >> Stay informed about: How are things out there in Greece? |

| The world has two spiritual centers. One is Greece the birthplace of
genius. The other is Israel, the birthplace of monotheistic religion.
Too much preoccupation with monotheistic religion causes terrorism,
economical, political, and social problems.

You must be joking. (Or, more likely, trolling.) Greece has a host of
problems. Fortunately, most of them do not directly affect the casual
tourist (unless, of course, that tourist is caught up in one of the
many unpredictable transit, banking, etc., labor strikes).
The education and health systems in Greece are borderline
unacceptable. The problem is that in each of these areas, there are
two parallel systems -- one for those with money, and one for those
without. Plus, the conversion to the euro has caused inflation that
makes Greece generally expensive, for natives as well as tourists.
And Greece has lost control of its borders. There are literally
millions of Third-World illegal aliens committing crimes, taking jobs,
and generally making things difficult for Greeks and tourists alike. >> Stay informed about: How are things out there in Greece? |

We, a 65-yr old independently traveling couple, just returned from
Athens yesterday. There are some changes since our last visit in 1988.
English is more widely spoken, public transportation is first-rate, ATM
machines everywhere make travelers' checks obsolete, prices (dollar
equivalents) seemed to have about tripled. . . probably about right
given the passage of time and conversion to euro currency.
Some things seemed the same: the people, air pollution, and cars
parking/driving anywhere and everywhere. For the same money you can
vacation longer next door in Bulgaria. We liked both places. ---Ken

Wow, that's a lot of time, I am sure you've experienced a different Greece
from
your first travel:-)

Sure, but not different in any unexpected way. People are the same.
The Acropolis is more crowded with tourists and you are kept further
back from everything. In 1965 my wife says she was able to walk around
inside the Parthenon. . . now you can't get within 20 meters. The
mechanics of civilization are updated with subway, ATMs, cell phones,
etc. Since we never repeat a trip exactly, but seek out different
things, every place is different every time. . . but always fun!
We interact a lot with local people every day and that adds immensely
to our enjoyment of travel. Watching TV and reading newspapers makes
you think people are basically evil. Independent travel shows us 99%
are just like us. . . wonderful to interact with as long as they have
time. ---Ken >> Stay informed about: How are things out there in Greece? |
