Interbank rate is 44.1951 Baht
http://www.xe.com/ucc/

If the Bangkok Bank rate is 48/49 Baht you can make a fortune by
changing millions of Euro into Baht and viceversa.

The interbank rate is the one which is used (perhaps with a slight fee)
when withdrawing money from an ATM.

I found the rate inside Thailand was better than the quoted rates
elsewhere, something about the Thai bank wanting to help promote
tourism. I was there in October and the expected rate was 32 baht to
the usd at the time while my rate at ATM's was 35.

If you got 35 Baht to the US$ at an ATM machine then that would have
been a rate given *outside* Thailand. The exchange rate on ATM cash
withdrawals is applied by your own bank at home.
